Revision knee replacement surgery is used to replace a previously implanted artificial knee joint that has become worn out or damaged. This kind of surgery is typically carried out when the first knee replacement has failed because of an infection, implant loosening, or other complications. This procedure aids in the restoration of mobility and the reduction of pain.
The surgery is typically performed under general anaesthesia and can take several hours to complete. During the procedure, the surgeon will make an incision in the knee and remove the old implant. The new implant is then inserted and secured with screws, and the incision is closed with sutures.
Following surgery, the patient is required to wear a brace for several weeks to protect the new implant and allow it to heal properly. Physical therapy is often recommended to help patients regain knee strength and mobility.
Mrs. Minati Adhikari from West Bengal successfully underwent Revision Knee Replacement Surgery at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. Jayakrishna Reddy T, Consultant Orthopedic Joint Replacement & Arthroscopic Surgeon.
