A lateral internal sphincterotomy is a surgical procedure used to repair an anal fissure. It helps to increase the blood flow to the affected area and thereby reduces the pressure inside the anus that can cause spasms. Sphincterotomy is the procedure of choice when nonsurgical treatments are ineffective. It can be done under local or general anesthesia and takes about 30 minutes to complete. The patient is typically discharged the same day. Mr. Vishnulal Chandrakar from Chhattisgarh successfully underwent Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy for the Treatment of Anal Fissures at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. Tokala Surender Reddy, Consultant Surgical Gastroenterologist, Laparoscopic Bariatric & Metabolic Surgeon.
