Mr. Syed Saleem, President of Raza E Ilahi Foundation, a well-known social worker from Old City, Hyderabad, was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour in his left kidney. Dr. Sachin Marda, Senior Consultant Oncologist & Robotic Surgeon, Yashoda Hospitals helped him win the battle against cancer by performing a successful Minimally Invasive Laparoscopic Radical Nephrectomy.
The presence of cancerous tumours in the kidney indicates kidney cancer. This can be treated through nephrectomy, wherein the complete or part of the kidney affected by the tumour is surgically removed.
In a laparoscopic radical nephrectomy, trocars are inserted through three to five tiny incisions into the abdominal cavity of a patient who is under anaesthesia. The surgical tools are inserted, and the ureter and other vessels are clamped to stop blood flow to the kidney. The kidney is removed through one of the incisions once it has been released from supporting structures. The wounds are closed and sutured.
The patient’s condition is monitored for 2 days post-surgery. He is instructed to refrain from heavy lifting and intense exertion for at least six weeks. It takes 4-6 weeks to fully recover.
