ACL reconstruction surgery aids in the reconstruction of a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), a major ligament in the knee. Soccer, football, basketball, and volleyball are the most common sports for ACL injuries.
Ligaments are strong tissue bands that connect one bone to another. The torn ligament is removed and replaced with a band of tissue that connects muscle to the bone during ACL reconstruction (tendon). The graft tendon is obtained from a different part of the knee or from a deceased donor. ACL reconstruction is a minor outpatient procedure performed by a doctor who specializes in bone and joint surgery (orthopedic surgeon).
Mr. M. Venkata Kalyan from Kurnool underwent ACL reconstruction surgery at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. Preshith Gaddam, Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon.
