Hip replacement surgery is a major surgical procedure performed to replace a damaged hip joint with an artificial implant. Hip replacement is recommended for people who have severe hip pain and disability due to conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or avascular necrosis of the hip joint.
During the surgery, the surgeon will make one or two small incisions, typically 2-4 inches in length, and then use specialised instruments to access the hip joint and remove the damaged bone and cartilage. After preparing the artificial joint, the surgeon will insert the implant and secure it in place.
A minimally invasive approach to hip replacement surgery is highly beneficial to the patients, as it improves their quality of life and has shorter hospital stays and recovery times. But since it is a major surgery, it also comes with complications like blood clotting, infection, and nerve damage.
Mr. CH. Sai Chandar from Warangal successfully underwent Minimally Invasive Hip Replacement Surgery at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. Nitish Bhan, Senior Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.
