The main surgical procedure is a colectomy, which removes the cancerous portion of the colon and healthy tissue. If direct reconnection isn’t possible, a colostomy may be necessary. In cases where the cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes, these are removed during surgery. Surgical approaches can include open surgery or minimally invasive techniques like laparoscopic or robotic surgery. Other treatment options include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted therapies, and immunotherapy.
