ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) reconstruction is a surgical procedure performed to repair a torn ACL, the ligament that helps stabilize the knee joint. ACL tears commonly occur during sports activities or sudden movements that involve twisting the knee. During the procedure, the surgeon replaces the torn ACL with a graft made from a tendon, usually from the patient’s own body (autograft) or from a donor (allograft). The graft is secured in place with screws or other fixation devices. ACL reconstruction can help improve knee function, reduce the risk of further knee injuries, and restore stability to the joint. Meniscus repair is a surgical procedure performed to repair a torn meniscus, the C-shaped cartilage structure that acts as a shock absorber and provides stability to the knee joint. Meniscus tears can occur due to sudden twisting of the knee, repetitive stress, or degenerative changes associated with ageing. During the procedure, the surgeon trims and repairs the torn meniscus using specialized instruments. The torn edges of the meniscus are sutured together, allowing the tissue to heal and regain its normal function. Meniscus repair can help reduce pain, improve knee function, and delay the onset of arthritis in the knee joint. Mr. M. Naveen Kumar from Hyderabad successfully underwent ACL Reconstruction & Meniscus Repair at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. Sai Thirumal Rao Veerla, Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon.
