Total knee replacement surgery, also known as total knee arthroplasty, is a surgical procedure performed to replace the damaged or worn-out knee joint with artificial components. It is typically done to relieve severe pain and disability caused by conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or other forms of arthritis that have significantly damaged the knee joint. During the procedure, the surgeon removes the damaged cartilage and bone from the surfaces of the knee joint and replaces them with metal and plastic components. The new components mimic the natural movement of the knee joint, allowing for smooth motion and weight-bearing. The advantages of total knee replacement surgery include significant reduction in knee pain, improved mobility and function, and the potential for a better quality of life. Mr. Doska Winston Tembo from Malawi successfully underwent Right Total Knee Replacement Surgery at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. Venuthurla Ram Mohan Reddy, Sr. Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Lower Limb Services, Hip and Knee Surgery, Clinical Director.
