Peroral endoscopic myotomy, commonly called the POEM procedure, is used to treat achalasia and swallowing disorders. Achalasia is a condition that affects the esophagus, making it difficult to swallow. POEM is an in-patient procedure that uses an endoscope to cut muscles in the esophagus, a myotomy, through the mouth. It takes one to three hours to complete and is less invasive than other alternatives, as no incision is made through the skin. This procedure is regarded as an advanced endoscopy for achalasia.

POEM Surgery: Pre-Op & Post-Op Care
Preparation: Preparation involves a medical history evaluation, physical examination, imaging assessments, and discussion of procedure details.
