Minimally Invasive Surgery: Minimally invasive surgeries use small incisions to fix an ailment. In the case of vascular diseases, when the blood flow is restricted, minimally invasive surgeries are performed to treat the problems. Doctors generally use ultrasound, X-ray and other imaging techniques to guide a catheter, a thin tube, with specialized instruments to the affected area to restore blood flow. This requires small incisions, is less painful and the recovery is quick. Minimally invasive surgery can be used to treat nearly all vascular problems, from atherosclerosis, strokes to deep vein thrombosis and varicose veins.

IVC Filter Placements: Inferior vena cava filter or IVC filter is a small device that can restrict blood clots from going into the lungs. The device is inserted through a short surgery. During the surgery, a small incision in a vein of the patient’s groin or neck is made. A thin, flexible tube called the catheter is then inserted into the vein. This catheter is gently moved into the patient’s IVC. A collapsed IVC filter is then sent with the catheter. The filter is left in place, and the catheter is removed at the end of the procedure. In some time, the filter expands and attaches itself to the walls of the Inferior vena cava. The filter may be left in permanently or be removed after a period of time.

Sclerotherapy: Sclerotherapy is, perhaps, the most common way of treating varicose veins. In this treatment procedure, a saline or chemical solution is injected into the patient’s veins. This injection causes the veins to harden so that they no longer fill with blood. Blood that returned to the heart with these veins, returns through other veins after this procedure. The veins in which the solution is injected eventually shrivel and disappear.

Thrombolysis: Thrombolytic therapy, commonly referred to as thrombolysis, is a treatment in which dangerous blood clots in blood vessels are dissolved to improve blood flow and prevent tissues and organs from damaging. In this treatment procedure, clot-busting drugs are injected through an intravenous (IV) line or through a long catheter that delivers drugs directly to the site of the blockage.  It may also involve the use of a long catheter with a mechanical device that is attached to the tip of the catheter. This instrument either removes the clot or breaks it up.
