  • Major Surgery: Surgeries involving the head, neck, chest, and abdomen are known as major. The recovery time after these are usually very lengthy. Some of these surgeries are removal of brain tumors, correction of bone malformations, transplantation of heart or lung, repair of congenital heart defects, correction of problems in fetal development such as lungs, diaphragm, anus, etc.
  • Minor Surgery: The recovery time after these surgeries is usually short and children go back to normal soon. Examples of these surgeries are repair of hernia, ear tubes correction, removal of skin lesions, and correction of bone fractures, etc.
  • Emergency Surgery: These surgeries are performed in response to conditions that require immediate medical attention such as repairing injured internal organs post-accident.
  • Elective/Required Surgery: These surgeries are performed to ensure the child’s health quality in the future such as correction of severe curvature of the spine using spinal fusion. This surgery, unlike emergency surgery, does not require immediate attention, hence, there is more time to prepare the child for it.

Children that attend these services have direct access to a wide range of facilities and clinical staff with specialist expertise and dedicated pediatric nurses with strong multidisciplinary support including dieticians, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech and language therapy services, and pediatric pharmacists.

    FAQ’s

What is the treatment for Hirschsprung's disease?
In most children, Hirschsprung’s disease is treated by performing a surgery in which the part of the colon that lacks nerve cells is bypassed. There are 2 types of this surgery- pull-through surgery and ostomy surgery.

In pull-through surgery, the lining of the colon that is diseased is removed, and the non-diseased part of the colon is pulled through it from inside and attached to the anus.

Ostomy surgery is another surgery that is performed for very sick children. In this procedure, the diseased part of the colon is removed and the healthy part is connected to the abdomen because of which the stool passes into a bag attached to the abdomen known as the stoma. After healing, another surgery is performed in which the stoma is closed and the colon is reattached to the rectum or anus.

What are the most common childhood diseases?
Some of the most common childhood diseases are pink eye, influenza, common cold, gastroenteritis, childhood asthma, jaundice, etc.
