What is Imipramine?

    What are the side effects of Imipramine?

    Imipramine may cause side effects such as fatigue, drowsiness, anxiety, dry mouth, nausea, frequent urination or constipation, nightmares, changes in appetite, weight, and sex drive as well as excessive sweating. Contact your doctor if you feel any of these symptoms. Serious side effects that require emergency medical treatment include slow or slurred speech, shuffling gait, spasms in the jaw, neck, or back, uncontrollable shaking of a part of the body, irregular or rapid heartbeat, yellowing of the skin or eyes, fever, or other signs of infection, difficulty breathing or swallowing, and rash.

    Imipramine, a tricyclic antidepressant used to treat depression, anxiety, and panic disorder, may not work immediately. It may take 4-6 weeks to be effective.

    One cannot suddenly stop taking Imipramine. The administrator needs to gradually reduce the dosage in consultation with a medical professional. Doctors are likely to recommend tapering the dose before completely stopping it.

    Although this drug is not classified as addictive, stopping the dose abruptly may cause withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, headache, and so on. One needs to taper off the medication in consultation with a doctor.
