Grilinctus: Frequently Asked Questions Answered

What is Grilinctus?

Grilinctus syrup is prescribed for the symptomatic treatment of non-productive cough, especially dry, allergic, and irritating cough. Since it belongs to the class of Schedule G prescription drugs, exercise proper precautions before consuming. It is dangerous to use Grilinctus syrup without medical supervision.

Every 5 ml of the syrup contains:

  • Chlorpheniramine Maleate I.P.: 2.5 mg
  • Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide I.P.: 5 mg
  • Guaiphenesin I.P.: 50mg
  • Ammonium Chloride I.P.: 60 mg

What are the uses of Grilinctus?

  • Dextromethorphan hydrobromide – It is an antitussive (prevents or relieves cough). It suppresses cough centers and eliminates non-productive dry cough.
  • Guaiphenesin – As a mucolytic, it loosens and liquefies mucus and phlegm in the respiratory tract, thus easing cough and eliminating phlegm. It relieves congestion occurring due to the common cold, asthma, and other respiratory diseases.
  • Ammonium chloride – It decreases the stickiness and thickness of mucus, increases mucociliary action in the respiratory tract, and causes a more productive cough.
