Drotaverine is an antispasmodic medication used to relax smooth muscles such as the muscles of the stomach and heart. It is structurally linked to Papaverine, has no anticholinergic effects, and is a selective phosphodiesterase 4 inhibitor. It eases IBS, headaches, menstrual cramps, duodenal ulcers and to relieve cervical spasm during childbirth. Drotaverine is also used to treat biliary dyskinesia, benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH, and other vasomotor diseases.

Drotaverine is used to alleviate smooth muscle spasms in organs, including the heart and stomach. Drotaverine is primarily used to relieve painful spasms related to chronic gastroduodenitis, gastric or duodenal ulcers, irritable darkness syndrome (intestinal disease leading to cramps in the abdomen), and many other stomachs intestine disorders linked with severe spasms. It may also be taken during menstruation to alleviate discomfort (dysmenorrhea).
