What is Runner’s Knee?

Runner’s knee is the condition wherein the cartilage is present underneath the kneecap and acts as a natural shock absorber gets damaged. It presents itself in the form of a dull pain around the front part of the knee and is caused due to a structural defect or when an individual is involved in activities like running. It results in impairment of regular activities like kneeling, squatting, etc. This condition is also known as patellofemoral pain.

    What are the causes of Runner’s Knee?

    • Overuse of knees
    • Trauma to the kneecap
    • Misalignment of the kneecap
    • Dislocation of the kneecap
    • Flat feet
    • Weak or tight thigh muscles
    • Inadequate stretching before exercise
    • Arthritis and other conditions
    • A fractured kneecap
    • Previous injuries to the knee
    • Kneecap may sometimes be too high in the joint
    • Weak thigh muscles.
    • Tight hamstrings, tendons
    • Inappropriate footwear
    • Activities in which the thigh muscles are continuously pulling the kneecap outward
