What is Osteonecrosis of the knee?

Osteonecrosis of the knee, also known as avascular necrosis is a condition when the blood supply to a bone in the thigh or shin is hindered. It is a particularly painful condition. In a healthy individual, the old bone is continuously regenerated, but in an individual suffering from this condition, the reduced blood flow leads to faster break down of the bone before the body can make a new one.
