What is Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis?

Slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) is a condition in which the growth plate (physis) gets fractured, which results in slippage of the overlying end of the femur.

What are the causes of Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis?

This condition is caused due to one or more of the following factors which affect bone health:

  • Positive family history of SCFE
  • Obesity
  • Endocrine disorders such as diabetes, thyroid disease
