Osgood-Schlatter Disease is a condition wherein the patellar ligament at the tibial tuberosity of the knee becomes inflamed, which results in a painful bump right below the knee. It arises usually in children who experience growth spurts and mostly resolve on its own with rest. Hence, episodes of this condition may last for a few months.
This condition is mostly caused while a child or an adult is involved in activities like running, jumping, playing sports such as soccer, volleyball, basketball, etc. This is because involvement in these activities results in pulling on the tendon which connects the kneecap to the shinbone. Over some time, this recurring stress on the knee starts causing pain and swelling that is commonly associated with Osgood-Schlatter Disease.
