What are the symptoms of Bowed Legs?

Bowed legs can be easily recognized. Since, these are very common in children below the ages of 3, if this condition persists the parents should take their child to an expert to mitigate the damage before it becomes permanent or worse. 

Some other symptoms include:

  • Symmetrical bowing in both legs
  • Knees that don’t touch even if the child stands with his feet and ankles close together 
  • Knee or hip pain that may not be directly related to an injury

What are the complications of Bowed legs?

Over time, bowed legs may result in complications such as:

  • Fractures and deformities: Bones affected by this condition are more prone to breakage. Bowed legs also affect a patient’s ability to walk properly and cause genuine discomfort. 
  • Osteoarthritis: It may result due to increased pressure on joints. 
  • Heart failure: It may lead the heart to pump the blood more to affected areas of the body. Hence, patients with pre-existing heart conditions may suffer from heart failure. 
  • Bone cancer: It is a rare condition observed in less than 1% of Paget’s disease patients.
  • Worsening of the bowing may occur
  • Constant discomfort to the patient
