Boutonniere Deformity Symptoms

The symptoms of this condition may present themselves immediately after the injury or after a period of up to 3 weeks. Some of these symptoms are:

• The middle joint finger cannot be straightened
• The fingertip cannot be bent
• Swelling and pain in the affected area

Boutonniere Deformity Complications

It is a fairly common complication of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and finger injuries.

An untreated condition of boutonniere deformity may lead to worsening of the condition and cause excessive discomfort and pain to the patient.
