What is Achilles Tendinitis?

Achilles tendinitis is an injury that is caused due to the overuse of Achilles tendons – the band of tissues that connect the calf muscles at the back of the lower leg to the heel bone. It most commonly occurs in runners who suddenly increase their duration and intensity while running.

What are the causes of Achilles Tendinitis?

Achilles tendinitis is caused due to many reasons and some of them are as follows:

  • Exercising without a proper warmup can cause Achilles Tendinitis.
  • A sudden increase in training intensity and amount.
  • Wearing poorly fitting shoes especially while exercising and training can cause pain and discomfort that can lead to Achilles Tendinitis.
  • Wearing high heels daily can exert pressure on the ankles and the Achilles tendon which can eventually lead to Achilles Tendinitis.
