Regular Health check-ups help you to keep diabetes at bay
Diabetes is a health condition that is characterized by high blood sugar. This is due to body’s inadequate production of insulin or cells not responding properly to insulin. Patients with high blood sugar experience three conditions – polyuria (frequent urination), polydipsia (excessive thirst) and polyphagia (hungry). Comprehensive diabetic health check-up in hyderabad will give better treatment in a specific time period.
Diabetes is a long-term condition that causes high blood sugar levels. By 2013, it was estimated that there are over 382 million people in the world had diabetes. Diabetes is of two types.
- Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease, where the body’s immune system attacks the cells of pancreas and inhibits production of insulin. Type 1 cannot be prevented.
- Type 2 Diabetes is a condition where the body produces insulin but cannot be used by the body. Type 2 can be prevented or delayed through a healthy lifestyle.
Once diagnosed for diabetics, there is need for continuous monitoring of the blood sugar, and managing the disease through diet and exercise. Uncontrolled sugar in Type 1 and 2, will lead to serious complications viz. blindness and kidney failure, heart disease, stroke, food and leg amputation.
Many of the diabetic patients do not know that they have diabetics till their blood is test for sugar level. Diabetes symptoms are characterized by frequent urination, intense thirst hunger, weight loss, fatigue, slow healing of cuts and bruises, sexual dysfunction, numbness and tingling of hands and feet.
In diabetic patients two conditions of Hyperglycemia (blood glucose is high) and Hypoglyceia (blood glucose is low) are prominently seen. The majority (90%) are of Type 2 diabetes. Diabetes is a metabolism disorder.
The food taken is digested and glucose is released. Insulin helps the body cells to absorb glucose/sugar. If there is no proper supply of insulin, the sugar in the blood cannot be absorbed by the cells. In diabetes, where is less supply of insulin, the sugar in the blood is rejected from the body by kidneys. Diabetics feel the fatigue, get tired early, and suffer from excess urination.
Diabetic check-ups are an important part of diabetes care. The simple sugar checks can be done at home. The advanced sugar checks are done at health centres. Advanced sugar checks are done on weekly, monthly and annual basis, and include checking the condition of blood sugar, cholesterol and kidney performance. The blood sugar should not exceed the limit. Urine and blood are tested for the presence of albumin protein. More albumin protein in the urine and blood means greater kidney damage due to diabetes.
