The surgery performed to remove varicose veins in the legs is called vein stripping. These veins are swollen, enlarged, twisted and can be observed under the skin. The varicose veins appear in blue or red colour, and they mostly appear in the legs and can develop in other body parts. During surgery: The surgical procedure includes two to three minor incisions in the leg around the damaged vein. A thin plastic wire is inserted in the vein through the incision present in the groin and is guided towards the cut farther down in the leg. The wire is then tied to the vein and pulled out through the lower cut resulting in removal of the vein.
