Patient Testimonial for Laparoscopic Anterior Resection

Testimonial by Mrs. Sabiha Anjum

Rectal cancer is diagnosed when cancerous tumours are found in the rectum. Laparoscopic anterior resection is a minimally invasive surgery that is done to remove the cancerous part of the rectum.

After the patient is sedated, the surgeon makes one or more incisions in the abdomen. The part of the rectum which consists of the cancerous tumour is removed. The remaining part of the rectum is reconnected to the colon with tiny metal staples or sutures. The incisions are then sealed to complete the procedure.

The patient is then monitored in the hospital for about 2 to 4 days. The length of the hospital stay may be extended depending on the patient’s recovery. The patient will have one or more tubes and drains attached. It is advised to move around and walk to lower the risk of blood clots and pneumonia. It will also help the patient pass gas and have bowel movements again.

Mrs. Sabiha Anjum from Hyderabad, underwent Laparoscopic Anterior Resection, under the supervision of Dr. Sreekanth CN, Sr. Consultant-Surgical Oncology, Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgery, HIPEC Surgery (Germany), Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad.
