Total Thyroidectomy is the surgical removal of the thyroid gland, the butterfly-shaped gland located in the front of your neck. The thyroid gland is responsible for producing thyroid hormone and controlling the overall metabolic process within your body.
Total Thyroidectomy is indicated for various thyroid disorders such as hyperthyroidism, goitre (enlargement of the thyroid gland), or thyroid cancer. The process involves making an incision at the base of your neck under general anesthesia. After the procedure, you might be discharged after an overnight stay at the hospital.
You may experience temporary symptoms such as neck pain, vocal cord soreness, or a weak voice in the days following your thyroidectomy. You would also be required to take thyroid supplements for the rest of your life to compensate for a lack of thyroid hormone in your body.
Mrs. Anita Kamble from Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh successfully underwent Total Thyroidectomy at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. Sreekanth CN, Senior Consultant Surgical Oncologist.
