What is the HbA1C Test?
The HbA1C test is also called the A1C test or glycosylated haemoglobin or haemoglobin A1C test. This test measures the amount of haemoglobin protein in the blood that has glucose coated to it. HbA1c provides an index of average blood glucose levels over the past 3 months (8 to 12 weeks) and is a good indicator of long-term glycemic control as compared to normal blood and urinary glucose determinations. This test is used to monitor blood sugar levels, as well as for screening of prediabetes and diabetes. This is an accurate and easy to administer test.
The HbA1c test can be used in place of or in combination with fasting blood glucose level.
